What is an online chess clock?

An online chess clock is a dual countdown timer for over-the-board chess: White and Black each get their own clock on one phone or tablet. After every move you tap your side to stop your clock and start your opponent’s — the same rhythm as a physical DGT-style clock. This free chess clock covers bullet, blitz, rapid, and classical presets, plus Fischer increment, Bronstein delay, and simple US delay, with table mode, wake lock, and private local storage so you can play without an account or a second device.

How do I start the chess clock?
Choose a time control, then press Black’s side. That starts White’s clock — the usual over-the-board convention.
What do A and L do on the keyboard?
A presses the far side and L presses the near side (physical slots). Space pauses or resumes. V toggles layout, P present mode, S skins, F table mode, M mute, U undo, and R reset.
Does it support Fischer and Bronstein?
Yes. Open Advanced (or the time-control sheet) to set base time, increment, delay seconds, and the timing method: sudden death, Fischer, Bronstein, or simple US delay.
Will the screen sleep during a game?
While a clock is running, the page requests a wake lock when the browser supports it. Table mode also uses fullscreen to keep the stage visible.
Is this the same as Lichess or Chess.com online play?
No. This is an over-the-board dual timer for a physical board. It does not move pieces, connect opponents online, or rate games.
Where are settings stored?
Preferences, favorites, recent time controls, and an interrupted session stay in local storage on this device only — nothing is uploaded to a cloud account.
What is the difference between Fischer and Bronstein?
Fischer adds a fixed increment to your clock after every move. Bronstein gives you a delay each turn and returns only the unused delay (capped at the delay value) when you move. Sudden death has no bonus; simple delay waits before the main clock starts ticking.
Can White and Black have different times (time odds)?
Yes. Enable time odds in Advanced to set separate base minutes and seconds for White and Black — useful for teaching games or handicap matches.
What are side-by-side, face-to-face, and Present mode?
Side-by-side is the default shared-phone layout. Face-to-face rotates the far pad for players sitting opposite each other. Present mode enlarges the clocks for a spectator screen or club monitor; press P or the Present control to toggle.
Can I change the look of the clock?
Yes. Open Skins (S) to switch themes such as Graphite, Walnut, Match LED, Green Felt, and Ivory Desk. Your choice is remembered on this device.
Does Undo work after someone flags?
Undo reverses the last handoff while a game is in progress. After a flag, use Rematch to reload the same time control for a new game.
Is the chess clock free, and does it work on mobile?
Yes — it is free in the browser on phone, tablet, or desktop. No install and no account. For best results on a shared phone, use Table mode and keep the tab in the foreground.
