    Free online stopwatch

    What is an online stopwatch?

An online stopwatch measures elapsed time in your browser — tap the face, press Start, or hit Space, then record lap splits without installing an app. This free stopwatch stays accurate in a background tab, keeps your last three laps on stage with a current-lap pace ring, highlights best and worst splits (hundredths by default, milliseconds optional), and offers display mode for gyms or classrooms plus CSV export or an embeddable widget.

    1. 01

      Start timing

Tap the face, press Start, or hit Space. Optionally arm a short 3–10s countdown first. A pace ring sweeps the current lap, and the time stays accurate even if the tab is in the background.

    2. 02

      Record laps

Press Lap or L to save a split. The last three laps stay on the stage; the table shows lap time, total, Δ vs previous, Δ vs best, and a bar versus your slowest lap. Best and worst rows are highlighted; tap the tempo chart to jump to a lap.

    3. 03

      Share, display, or go fullscreen

Export CSV or share a read-only result link. Share a look with a hash URL for SEO-friendly bookmarks. Display (D) enlarges the stage and, once you have laps, shows status · time · Lap n · Best. Sleep (S) dims the page; F goes fullscreen — useful in gyms and classrooms.

Built for workouts, labs, and everyday timing

Unlike a countdown timer, a stopwatch counts up from zero so you can measure how long something takes. Use activity presets for track, swim, lab (milliseconds and voice), speech, or HIIT; compare saved sessions side by side; keep everything local on your device — no account required.

    What you get

    • Unlimited laps & live stats Record as many splits as you need, with best, worst, average, Δ vs best, a bar versus your slowest lap, optional hundredths or milliseconds, and an interactive tempo chart.
    • Background-tab accuracy Elapsed time uses wall-clock math, so it stays correct when the browser throttles hidden tabs.
    • Up to three timers Run parallel stopwatches for different athletes or drills, each with its own laps and session. Double-click a tab to rename it.
    • Copy, CSV & share links Export lap tables for spreadsheets, share a result snapshot URL, or share your look setup with a hash link others can open without hurting SEO.
    • Embeddable widget Drop a compact iframe stopwatch on your website with custom size, colors, and skin.
    • Looks, favorites & local sessions Instant Looks, digit styles, ambient sound, and saved favorites stay on this device — along with running sessions and recent history you can compare lap by lap.

    Frequently asked questions

Shortcuts, laps, display, and sharing — quick answers.

What keyboard shortcuts does the stopwatch support?
You can also tap the face to start or pause. Space does the same, L records a lap, R resets the time, D toggles display mode, F toggles fullscreen, S toggles sleep, and ? opens the shortcut list. Esc closes the help dialog, wakes from sleep, exits display mode, or exits fullscreen.
Does the stopwatch stay accurate in a background tab?
Yes. Elapsed time is computed from the wall clock at start, not a throttled interval, so it stays accurate when the tab is hidden or the screen sleeps briefly.
What do Best, Worst, and Average mean?
Best is your fastest lap split, Worst is the slowest, and Average is the mean of all recorded laps. Best and worst rows are highlighted; each lap also has a bar scaled to the slowest split, and Δ vs best shows how far that lap is from your PR. The stage keeps your last three laps in view.
Will my session survive a refresh?
Yes. Running state, elapsed time, and laps are saved on this device so a refresh or accidental tab close does not wipe your session.
How do I export lap times?
Use Copy to put laps on the clipboard, or Export CSV to download a spreadsheet-friendly file with lap number, split, total, Δ vs previous, Δ vs best, and clock time.
Can I run more than one stopwatch?
Yes. Add up to three timers and switch between them with the tabs. Double-click a tab to rename it. Each timer keeps its own time and laps. Optional tick and lap sounds, plus screen wake lock on mobile, help during workouts.
    How does Share work?
There are two share types. Result share copies or opens a link with your total and laps in a query parameter so others see a read-only snapshot. Look share puts your Instant Look setup in the URL hash (#look=…) so you can bookmark or send the stage appearance without affecting SEO.
Can I embed the stopwatch on my website?
Yes. Use the Embed section to customize size, colors, and skin, then copy the iframe code. The widget runs entirely in the visitor’s browser and links back to the full stopwatch tool.
What are Instant Looks and favorites?
Instant Looks apply a skin, background, and ambient effect in one tap. Save your preferred setup as a favorite on this device, then reapply it later from Settings.
    What is Start arm?
Start arm is an optional 3, 5, or 10 second countdown before the stopwatch begins from zero. It only runs when you start a fresh session (no elapsed time or laps yet). Reset or Esc cancels the arm.
How do I compare with a saved session?
Save a finished run, then tap Compare on a history item. You will see summary stats plus a side-by-side lap list for the current session versus the saved one. The tempo chart can also overlay the compared run.
Can I show hundredths or milliseconds?
Yes. Hundredths (.00) are on by default. Turn on Milliseconds for three digits (.000) — that turns Hundredths off, and the other way around. The Lab activity preset enables milliseconds plus voice and lap sound.
    What is display mode?
Display (D) hides the rest of the page so the stage fills the screen — useful on a gym monitor or in a classroom. After you record laps, the strip shows status, elapsed time, Lap n, and Best. Sleep (S) dims everything except the time; fullscreen (F) is the browser’s full-screen mode. Esc exits display, sleep, or fullscreen.
